Royal Pains: My Kind of House Call

What exactly is a concierge doctor? This was the question on my mind when I was told about this new show called Royal Pains about the life and adventures of a concierge doctor. Apparently, a concierge doctor is a doctor that makes house calls to the richy-rich. In Royal Pains, the doctor is named Hank (a former E. R. doctor who got fired from his hospital job) who lands the gig while visiting the Hamptons en route to full-blown (and thankfully avoided) existential crisis.

With all the medical shows out there, it's easy to dismiss Royal Pains as yet another one of them and not bother. Big mistake. Because of all the new medical shows, Royal Pains is now my new favorite and top recommendation (i. e., over Mental, Hawthorne, and Nurse Jackie). It's perfect for when you're captivated with Dr. Owen Hunt's job in Grey's Anatomy (who is a trauma surgeon, not an E. R. doc, but whose work seems similar albeit much more bloody), enjoy playing Amateur Surgeon (because Hank sometimes uses everyday stuff as substitute for actual medical equipment though I have yet to see him use a pizza cutter in lieu of a scalpel), and miss Privileged (Me, me, me! All me!).

The dialogue is also exceptionally witty, and I especially enjoy the verbal sparring between Evan (Hank's brother, a. k. a. Standout Sidekick of the Year) and Divya (Hank's Physician Assistant, err, Associate). I am rooting for them to end up together because I'm all for the belief in the thin line between love and hate (Yihee! Hahaha).


While the Jill-Hank relationship drama is a bit forced and cliche, I actually still like them as a couple. I just wished the writers spiced up Jill's situation so that it makes it seem impossible for Hank and Jill to be together. Because getting scared of getting hurt again is so not made-for-TV relationship drama. However, to compensate for the drag in Hank's lovelife, the other supporting roles are all quite interesting, from the young couple Tucker and Libby (I love Libby, she's so cute!) to Miss "New Parts" Newberg, and even Boris (and the mysteries that surround him).

I definitely prescribe it! The eighth episode is airing soon (just in time for me to finish the other episodes) and I can't wait to watch and find out what has happened to Hank and his posse and clients. Also very happy to know that Royal Pains is getting a second season. And hopefully, many more afterwards. :)

What to Watch Right Now

September is when the big shows start their new seasons, and since it is still a long way until September, here are my friendly suggestions on what you can watch until September begins...

... if you're looking for something light, funny, girly and 101% feel-good: Drop Dead Diva
About a pretty model-wannabe who dies and goes back to earth in a less attractive lawyer's body, DDD is like a more mature Legally Blond. Perfect for times when you just wanna unwind and not think too much. :)

... if you're craving for medical drama: Hawthorne and okay, Nurse Jackie (if you still want more)
While the doctors of Grey's Anatomy are on a hiatus (and one in particular is gone for good *tears*), the nurses are taking over! Jada Pinkett Smith is a darn good actress, all the other nurses on her staff are easily lovable too, so it is to me the best [insert your favorite medical show, it is GA for me]- filler airing. Nurse Jackie can be amusing too, if you're into the whole Robinhood, flawed goodness persona. Of course, these shows come with dashing doctors: Michael Vartan in Hawthorne and Peter Facinelli in Nurse Jackie (a. k. a. Carlisle in Twilight). :)

... if you prefer a twist to the usual medical drama: Mental
Some House fans call it a House rip-off, but I personally think it's not fair to compare the shows (so not apples to oranges), even if there is some sort of mystery-solving in Mental as in House.

... if you're more into something idealistic, utopian, and grandiose: Kings
I have some catching up to do with Kings as well, but maybe some of what I've previously said here is still relevant. Unfortunately, there will be no second season, so watch as you please, but don't get too attached or you'll be sad to see it go (telling myself this too!).

I'm still looking for more shows to watch, and will probably give Royal Pains a shot next. Any other suggestions?

Gee, Glee! Sounds Terrific!

Generally speaking, I'm just not that into musicals. Nothing annoys me more than watching my favorite TV characters break into song because the show happens to have a musical special or bit (yes, you, Scrubs). There have been some exceptions (hello, Mamma Mia), but knowing that something is a musical just makes it a little less interesting for me.

In my quest to find new interesting TV shows, I decided to give Glee a shot, despite my thinking that maybe it is just another HS Musical (that I never watched ever, ha!). As the title suggests, it is all about a high school's glee club and their efforts of showcasing their talents and making themselves a part of something special.

After the pilot, I can say I'm glad I watched (thanks @mzmraz, @shondarhimes for convincing me, haha). Gorgeous and talented Finn is my new TV crush (and I commend the Glee people for hooking the girls by flashing him a few seconds into the pilot). His a capella rendition of "Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore" at the shower is priceless (more, more!). All in all, the performances are great, and while I know I'm supposed to root for the home team, Vocal Adrenaline's (the rival glee club) performance of "Rehab" was so awesome that I looped it thrice (clap, clap!).

More notes:

• Will Schuester reminds me of Screech (as in Saved by the Bell Screech). A more serious Screech. It should follow that he's got great singing talent given that he was once a member of a glee club back in the day, and I cannot wait to see him perform. Astound us all, please. :)
  
• It seems that Glee is running a take-in-the-dead-heroes campaign though. As in dead heroes from Heroes, namely, Bob, the alchemist, Claire's biological mother, and Charlie with the uber photographic memory who is also Charlie in Ugly Betty (wait, is Meredith dead already?).
• Rachel can be annoying and yet adorably funny (and her rendition of "On My Own" triggered a Katie Holmes Dawson's Creek flashback). She will probably end up with Finn, because that's the way TV goes, but while I don't hate her, I don't like her for Finn either.
  
• On the other hand, Will's wife Terri is just simply annoying, not to mention a major brat. Maybe she has some redeeming value in her, but I just don't see it.
  
• Kurt (the gay guy) seems underutilized somehow. I'd like him to do more solos. Great audition song! :P
• I hope everyone on the show (i. e., the cheerleaders, the football players) end up joining the club! :)
  

All in all, I must say Glee is indeed a reason for glee. Here's hoping you have more gleeful performances in store for us! :)

Pilot Alert: Cupid

At first glance, the new Cupid (a remake of the 1998 series staring Jeremy Piven), seemed to be this huge cliche of a show... After all, haven't we had enough of matchmakers claiming fame as modern-day Cupid?

But the show is about real Cupid being banished from Mt. Olympus and his ticket back is successfully helping a hundred couples find true love. Cupid, who calls himself Trevor Pierce, has some sort of definition of what qualifies as true love, but I'd rather not quote it. Ha!

I've always been fascinated by Greek mythology, so the whole scene where Trevor is being quizzed by Claire, the shrink assigned to his case, about the Greek gods and goddesses totally did it for me. In addition, Bobby Cannavale, who plays Cupid/Trevor, while not exactly swoon-worthy, has just enough cockiness and sense of humor to earn the part (he's perfect as a bartender too). I'm still 50-50 on Claire and her extremely lecturing self but I hope that tips to a thumbs up soon since she has a 99.99% chance of being Cupid's Psyche (.01% for a shocking twist).

Of course, each episode has novelty potential, as we watch Cupid scour to match 200 souls (or rather 198 souls ;D). I happen to like the story featured in the pilot, which while predictable was still cute, mostly because the Irish musician Dave was such a sweetie and a cutie. I just hope that from hereafter, they feature more original, creative stories - a tough challenge in a world where romantic cliches run rampant.

But a hundred or so dashes of hopeless romanticism? Sure, why not. ;) As long as they aren't tacky.

Pilot Alert: Kings

Royalty always seemed like a dazzling thing to me, and based on the title, I thought I would get snippets of the captivating world of monarchs in this new show entitled Kings.

Instead there is very little glitz and glamor as the two-hour premiere ushered in idealism wretched with harsh realities because however utopian the Kingdom of Gilboa seems to be, it is every bit plagued with what the world at large has to experience on a daily basis - wars and conspiracies on a grand scale, and betrayals, manipulations, jealousy and ulterior motives on a more microscopic scale. Fortunately, there is love and camaraderie and hope sprinkled all over, which makes the drama of the show a tad less heavy (and by a tad, I really mean more a teeny-tiny smidgen).

The premiere laid out so many plotlines in an intricately woven web, but there is promise that in the end things just might be simplified beautifully courtesy of the ever idealistic David (purposely named so after the biblical figure who defeated Goliath because apparently this is the show's fundamental parallel). And while it attempts to inject humor, playfulness, action and romance in order to not entirely drain all the endorphins out of its viewiers, it is not for anyone who wishes to just sit back, relax and watch TV.

But the cast is stellar - from the idealistic and naive Josh Hartnet lookalike David, the ruthless yet pained King Silas (Ian McShane), the closeted heir to the throne Jack who we last saw as bad boy Carter in Gossip Girl (my favorite character so far), the pretty princess Michelle (who of course is David's love interest because that is just how it is on TV - underdog gets the princess), all the way down to the brother-in-law and the Reverend, and they all just might make the show worth the watch.

The best visual of the show, the one that will stick to me for a really long time is that of David being adorned with a crown of butterflies, just like King Silas have always publicly claimed to have experienced. While it seems a little funny for a warfreak, manly country to be symbolized by a butterfly (it's in their flag, insignia and stationery, people!), I find that softened touch acceptable. But of course, I'm a girl. I doubt the men will find it cute. Hahaha.

But for what it's worth, I'm watching to see just where the butterflies will take this show. ;)

Pilot Alert: Better Off Ted

I never really knew about this new show called Better Off Ted until I got a notification from my Facebook Scrubs fan page about this show premiering after Scrubs (there are benefits to having a hundred or so pages after all :P). I am in dire need of new stuff to watch because my faves are slowly saying BIFN (trader jargon which stands for Bye for Now - don't ask, I never really got why too, haha) one by one .

And so I watched the show, which introduced itself via a full ad about this company called Veridian Dynamics. I thought it was an actual ad and not part of the show, but it turns out that it is the company where this Ted guy works after all. The company makes almost everything except maybe cows (although they have made sheep... Dolly, is that you? Hahaha), and Ted is the head of their R&D Department.

Based on the premise of working for such an omniscient company, the possibilities are endless, and as a comedy show, it should follow that the laughter potential should be endless as well. Except it's not really very funny (in the hahahaha way), and it made me feel a little like the first and last time I watched 30 Rock. What Better Off Ted has going for it vis-a-vis 30 Rock (aside from the fact that I am in a much dire need for entertainment and distraction now than before), was that Jay Harrington (who we last saw kissing Addison and causing her to kinda cheat in Private Practice) has a pretty engaging charm about him. But the highlight of the show for me is Portia de Rossi, who plays Ted's stiff yet endearing boss Veronica, the kind that you can't really hate even when she is being impossible, unethical and ummm... devoid of all emotion. All the other characters are meh to annoying, and I really hope Ted doesn't end up with his creamer-stealing assistant because as early as now I am really rooting for him and Portia.

For now, I'll keep on watching, but I hope that the show has more in store other than Ted and Portia's performances. It's a show about a company who can make impossible things possible, for crying out loud! Other shows have had to work with so much less and pulled through.

P. S. Why is it entitled Better Off Ted? I don't get it. I really don't.

On Heroes (The Show, Not the General Idea)

The latest run of Heroes is on its fifth chapter, and while I don't dislike it as much as after watching the second chapter, it's still not exactly the Heroes I've known and loved.

If you've been following Heroes or would want to know what's been going on (and don't mind spoilers)...

Sure, I'm curious about who this person is who calls himself or herself Rebel, but I don't think it's enough to keep people tuned in on the show. Especially when the other major thing happening is another *gasp* explosion, this time with an involuntary suicide bomber in the form of Matt Parkman, and the ever enthusiastic savior Hiro and his (now) supercharger friend Ando. It's just too how-many-seasons-ago-with-some-tweaks, don't you think?

In other news, while Peter was way cooler when he had a wide array of powers to use at his disposal, the whole one-power-at-a-time limitation does bring out an adorable vulnerability in him that enhances his character. He is still the compassionate and idealistic Peter from day one of Heroes, but his courage (albeit naive) is now more evident. And let's face it, there really is room for only one invincible hero even in a show full of heroes. Unfortunately, that "hero" is Sylar.

Speaking of, while the rest of the heroes are trying to elude Nathan and Co. (and Noah too), Sylar (a. k. a. the most lovable heartless villain ever) is more preoccupied with his quest for answers by finding his birth father. Sure, he is being hunted down like the others but are they really a match against him? For a little while there, he drives with Luke, a very willing teenage sidekick, who does not believe Sylar is that dangerous. Taking off from last season's Elle-Sylar love story, the first few chapters of the show has lead us to hope that maybe Sylar has a redeeming quality after all. And if it's not romance that could extract the best in him, maybe a little brotherly friendship would (sure, sure, whatever). In a sense, we did see him not kill Luke (because it's a little too on the nose, apparently), and yet he still continues alone on his quest to find and kill his father who deserves all the credit for demonstrating to him how to do his signature killer move (pun intended) and scarring his soul for life (and why is it only now that he remembers all these again?). Sylar as a kid was too darn cute though, and I actually felt a wave of sadness knowing what he will end up to be.

So what's next aside from Sylar's soul-searching and another explosion and that Claire encounter with the puppet master (which I am so not looking forward to)? Is Moira Kelly really just a Homeland Security person? And the biggest question of all: Is there something more original in store for this season of Heroes? I guess we all have to stay tuned to find out. Or not.

P. S. Apparently, if you kiss someone with fish abilities (i. e., can breathe forever under water), you are able to sort of do that too. Oh really now...

Rediscovering OTH

I used to love, love, love One Tree Hill. But a few months ago, I decided to boycott the show under the rationale of ridiculous plotlines. However, a little birdie told me that the show's not so bad. In fact, it's pretty much the same OTH we used to watch out for week after week. Which is why I opted to do a full on OTH Season 6 marathon recently (Jeez Yms, where is all the free time coming from? Hahaha).

Six seasons since the time I first discovered OTH, some things haven't changed for me. For one, I still loooove Nathan. Sure, he no longer is a jerk (and I don't like jerks anymore anyway, haha), but he still is adorable to me in the I'm-so-proud-of-how-you've-changed sort of way. Equally important, Brooke is still my favorite person in Tree Hill. Generally speaking, given any TV show, I would most likely favor the bitchy (yet not-so-heartless) female character, and before Sage of Privileged and Blair of Gossip Girl, there was Brooke Davis. Yes she was a bit on the sl*tty side, but she has always been a great friend and a strong, fiesty woman and the sixth season demonstrated just how much she's grown from that girl who sat naked at the backseat of Luke's car. BTW, is Sophia Bush and James Lafferty still dating? I am so rooting for them. Hahaha. :)

But some things also have changed. Like I don't hate Haley anymore. I have already accepted that she is the love of Nathan's life (awww...). Maybe because she totally upgraded the wardrobe. Hahaha. I have also conceded that Luke and Peyton are the ones who are right for each other. I think the whole Lindsey thing from the previous season helped, though I won't be devasted if all those rumors about Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton leaving the show were true (although I know of one person who will be heartbroken).

Wanna know what's gone on in the latest run of OTH?


There's a lot that went on in Tree Hill after I decided to turn my back on them (I'm so sorry for giving up after two episodes... I'm just really so impatient. Hahaha.). Nathan plays basketball again. Brooke decides to channel her mothering desires towards a teenager. Lucas and Peyton get engaged and have a baby on the way. And (drumroll please), Lucas' first novel is gonna be turned into a movie. Enter two new noteworthy characters: the charming (to further qualify: charming-not-handsome-except-maybe-a-little-up-close, haha) indie producer Julian (who is also Peyton's ex and Brooke's new romantic object - yes, they're sharing boys again :P) and eccentric director Dixon (played by James Van Der Beek, a. k. a. Dawson Leery, who I never really cared for in Dawson's Creek but I somehow enjoy watching in OTH because he is pretty funny). All in all, pretty great material, save for that eyerolling encounter similar to the psycho nanny Carrie storyline (quit it, you guys... it's soooo B movie-ish!). And while the latest episode didn't really leave any significant cliffhangers, I felt a tinge of yearning five minutes into that last episode. I want more OTH! :) The marathon just reminded me of how much I love the show.

March 16 (when the next episode is set to air) seems like such a long wait. Especially because there's a one day lag from here. Hahaha. :)

The 18th Privilege

I don’t regularly do dedicated single episode rundowns, but because I love Privileged so much I can’t help but talk about their season finale.

Let me start by saying that it was a proper season finale. A cliffhanger was there and some burgeoning storylines were set up, and while I can’t wait to watch Season 2, I also really didn’t feel like I had to watch the next episode tomorrow or I will implode. Hahaha. Furthermore, there were subtle wrap-ups of the storylines in the season. My favorite scene in this episode will have to be the one of the girls dancing (I liiike being a giiirl...) - Laurel, Megan, Sage and Rose. I really couldn’t help but smile at this scene, and in a sense, it provides a wordless statement: that this show is, above anything else, all about these ladies.

I love the central occasion at which this episode is set - Marco’s wedding. Because we all know Marco is my favorite (I’ve said it a number of times already). His marriage to Keith gets me worried that they might boot him out of the show. I really hope not. Because then I’d be really sad. Awww… (wait a minute, para akong sirang plaka). Anyhow, what follows from the opening discussion about doves vs. fireworks (Marco naman, doves over fireworks? Seriously?! Haha.), and a stream of quirky dialogue (which forms part of the Privi trademark) is a couple of *gasp* breakups and mishaps I just totally did not see coming.

I really thought this episode would set the foundation for a Will-Megan-David (Robert Buckley, who will always be Kirby to me) love triangle. But noooo it doesn’t. It does hit us with a Will-Megan breakup which still surprised me when I saw it happen even if I already knew (I slept through my first viewing of Privi and only woke up to watch them broken up already and to “attend” Marco’s wedding for 2 minutes then slept again. Har-har.). I felt a wee-bit apologetic for siding with Will when Megan actually was right on her position on Will and his work ethic, and then boom! Megan does the most careless thing ever. Poor Will. I officially hate Megan now. Drunk or not, you just don’t do that to Will. Or any guy for that matter.

Of course the Will-Megan breakup is enough heartbreak for one episode (even if it’s a season finale). And then comes the curve ball Sage-Luis breakup. Which is sad (because I loved them together), but totally understandable. I happen to think Sage made the right call on this one. Oh Sage, how well you’ve grown. :D

The resonating theme in this episode was that of change vs. being yourself. They couldn’t have picked a better theme for the season finale.

The Will-Logan Connection

I chanced upon this article in Buzzsugar exploring a theory that viewers of Privileged and Gilmore Girls both happen to like Will and Logan or neither. And while I'm proof that the theory might be valid (I happen to like them both, haha), I can't help but wonder what the parallels are aside from the obvious wealthy boy vibe. Logan was the consummate bad boy but I loved his spontaneity and unpredictable romanticism and because I'm a sucker for reformed bad boy stories (more then than now, haha), Logan quickly catapulted up as my favorite of Rory's boys. Will, on the other hand, though never having a serious relationship prior to Megan, never really struck me as a bad boy. In fact, he was more a nice guy to me. Features-wise, there is very little similarity (for the record, Will is just way hotter, haha) and Will has his act together much more than Logan. So I wonder what other connection there is. Well, whatever. Hahaha. Wait, does Will have daddy issues like Logan? Hmmm...

Maybe I should just parallelize Megan and Rory... Naaahhh, Megan and her fashionable clothes won't stand a chance. I looooove Rory, and I'm a fan of Alexis Bledel. Sigh! I miss Gilmore Girls. Maybe I should have a Gilmore Girls marathon again. Hahaha. I remember the last time I had a Gilmore Girls marathon. Hmmm... Come to think of it, it seems like an appropriate time than any. We'll see. A little while longer...

My Favorite TV Characters

The latest TV run is about to come to an end (Privileged will air its last episode soon, sob!), so I thought I'd go ahead and summarize the characters that have made watching absolute pleasure for me.

1. Marco (Privileged) - At the risk of sounding severely redundant, I'm just gonna say, keep 'em coming, Marco plotlines! I'm not yet convinced that Keith is perfect for him (protective much, Yms? hahaha), but I'm not complaining. Privileged with more Marco is always a hoot!

2. Will (Privileged) - The time of Nathan Scott, Justin Walker and Peter Petrelli has come and gone. To me at least, Will is now officially the swoon-worthiest of 'em all. He even trumps Robert Buckley! And I will take your side over Megan anytime, Will. Except I really don't get why you're so insecure about Charlie. He is just the best friend who happens to be a boy (debate again, Renil? :P). And now he's off the show. Awww...

3. Sage (Privileged) - I'm probably one of the ten people in the world who actually like her but I really do! Over Rose and Megan! And especially as Luis' girlfriend. Oops, redundant again. :)

4. Cooper (Private Practice) - I used to watch Private Practice and see Cooper as a non-character. Like someone brought in just to complete the circle of six. Yet lately, he has me genuinely touched, especially with how he has tried to win Charlotte over. And I now even appreciate him more than Pete. He had me sighing and saying "Oh, Coop!" in back-to-back episodes of Private Practice with his long speeches. He is also the bestest best friend in the world. Although I feel you too, Charlotte. I mean, seriously?! Hahaha. :)

5. Karen Darling (Dirty, Sexy, Money) - I used to not like her, thinking she's this dumb person. But the latest season of DSM had me thinking she really is the perfect one for Nick. But then of course they go ahead and cancel the show. Without closure. Mean people! Hahaha.

6. Mark and Lexi (Grey's Anatomy) - I am super rooting for them! They are severely adorable (not to mention incredibly gorgeous) on their own, but them as a couple? So so fun! And funny (yeah, that bit)! During the time when GA has taken a turn towards the crazy, these two have been the show's bright spot for me.

7. Alex (Grey's Anatomy) - Apparently, I'm still a sucker for reformed bad boy stories (even though I have concluded that they are myths and never happen in real life, haha). Alex has really just been incredibly great with Izzy. You rock, Alex! :)

8. Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl) - Blair is the number one reason why I watch Gossip Girl. Chuck Bass is just a far second. Them as a couple actually bridges the gap between 1 and 2 (yeah, I know there's this whole Nate thing brewing though) Mellow or harsh, the Queen B still rules this show! :)

Please, please, please come back to entertain me more. Don't disappoint! There's so much of that in the real world already. Hahaha. :)

La la la la la la la la la la...

As far as TV runs go, there's always that one show you look forward to watching every week, the one you'd choose to prioritize if you had only one free 45-minute window during the week (wow naman, ang drama). Surprisingly, for me now, that show happens to be *gasp* Privileged! While I only caught up with it during the Christmas break as I chose to prioritize those roads that lead to crazy ghost plots and half-sibling-sharing plots (tsk, tsk), it has quickly become my new favorite. In fact, it's soooo fascinating, even the boys (and I mean real men) in the office are watching (which is why we all now share identical ringtones, hahaha). Here are my top reasons why I heart Privileged:

1. The fashion! I never really expected the fashion to be noteworthy but it is. Sometimes even more than Gossip Girl's. :)
2. Megan Smith. I used to not really like Megan, but she's gotten so pretty and quirky that I'm starting to appreciate why this is her show. I love her fashion sense the most too.
3. Will, Will, Will! Ah, Will is absolutely perfect. :) He is now officially my favorite TV hottie. So Megan better not break up with him! Well, judging from recent developments they probably won't. Fingers crossed.
4. Rose and Sage Baker. Most of the time, the twins are the reason the show is absolutely adorable. Like 99.9% of the time. And while the popular consensus is that Rose is the more adorable twin, I happen to like Sage a tad more (it's the b*tch factor). Especially now with the Sage-Luis romance. And while we're on that subject, I can't help but wish they find a different guy for Rose.
5. The dialogue is upbeat and full of witty banter. So, so fun! :)
6. Marco! Marco is probably my favorite guy character on the show, and sometimes I even look forward to seeing him on screen more than Will (which is something considering how incredibly gorgeous Will is). It seems this guy is the writers' favorite because he usually delivers the best lines in an episode. And with him on the show, I understand why it's logical to just phase Charlie out because Marco's really the better go-to guy (sorry Charlie). Not to mention the more fun go-to guy. I'm loving that they are giving him more storylines and I especially think his little heartbroken streak is cute (especially when he's snarky). I'm kinda nervous though that the possibility of him opening his new restaurant might be a convenient segue for him to be out of the show. Please, please, please noooo...
7. While it has its own share of drama (Megan's emotional baggage is h-e-a-v-y), it's surprisingly light to watch. Because even during the more dramatic episodes (especially the last two), the show never forgets to shower some quirky, adorable sprinkles here and there.

And hey, hey, hey! What's this I'm hearing that Robert Buckley (a. k. a. Kirby in Lipstick Jungle) is joining the show? Eeeeee! It just keeps getting better and better. I can't wait for the last four episodes (or so) left of the season. :D

Down to the Last Tube?

Lipstick Jungle recently aired what might have been their final episode. Which is why I expected more. And yet how many minutes into the episode, I felt like I was being dragged into something because they can afford all the time in the world to spread out new plotlines.

I get that they have to leave question marks here and there. So they can get more lipsticks in protest to keep the show. But that wasn't how you end a season, and possibly even a show. It lacked more longing appeal somehow, and ironically, it was the men of the show who left the good impressions in that episode. Joe being the most romantic billionaire ever. Shane shifting from being Mr. Jerkface to Mr. Will Pull Through and Come Back. And Kirby, Kirby, Kirby... I will miss Kirby the most. His little speech for Nico reminded me of why he will always be everyone's favorite and not just because he's the hottest of 'em all ("I know what I want. I wanna be with you. And I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen.")

Sure they threw in that slideshow of clips to make me realize I was really gonna miss the girls if ever they no longer come back. But I seriously think they could have done better than just that.

This Week on TV

I may be busy but I'm still not too busy to watch my favorite shows (think lunch on desk). What? I can't work all the time! If I do that, I'm bound to make some people my stress balls. Hahaha. Wag naman. This week is particularly special because of the season premieres of some of my favorite shows. Eeeeeeee!!! I love TV! Proceed with caution... Spoiler alert!

Lipstick Jungle

The girls are back and I love, love, love their clothes! Something happens that paves the way for a Nico-Kirby romance (I think, or maybe hope). I can't believe you Charles! Joe Bennett is still pursuing Victory even if she's being so pakipot about it. Go Victory! Hahaha. :) Wendy is Wendy. Sorry, she's just really my least favorite character. This show just might be worth the loss of Cashmere Mafia.

Heroes
I watched 2/3s of the first 2 episodes in the office. Which wasn't such a good idea. Because I screamed out loud twice (like an idiot) and even spilled coffee all over the desk and my clothes watching it. I totally agree it's very jam-packed and fast-paced but I'm not complaining about the info overload. Peter is still sooo hot. Even with the scar. And Mohinder now has a special ability? Plus, a new girl. WTG, dude! :) FYI, was watching Heroes during the last Ateneo-La Salle game. Yeah, I know. I'm such a dork. :)

Grey's Anatomy
Lexi is so cute and funny. And what's all the talk about delayed rage? Hmmm... someone's hit. Hahaha! But I hope we've seen the last of that Rose. I really just don't like her. Erica Hahn decides to work on being a good teacher, among other things. ;) Izzie and Alex again? Yey! I've always been rooting for them. But then Alex has to go and mess it all up. Again. What else is new? Well, Christina has a new guy! Woot! Christina's accident was comedic but good for her. *wink* And then towards the end of the show the chief puts everyone on notice as he decides to overhaul the surgical program (the fall from number 1 to number 12 must've really hurt). Oooooh... It's bound to get better. After all, Grey's Anatomy is Grey's Anatomy. :)

House
I have to admit House isn't quite living up to my expectations but I'm watching nonetheless. I'm still not sure about whether I like the new character though (the PI who's not even cute. Boo!).

Priviliged
Is it just me or is Megan getting a tad prettier? And she has another potential boylet? Wow. Is this one guy per episode? Yeah, I'm counting. :) But Will is still the fairest of 'em all. Go Will!

Gossip Girl
Hello Upper East Siders, the party's just getting started. Enter nasty Serena. I love it!!! She was getting boring with Dan anyway. Vanessa oh-so-stupidly screws up. Yey! Shoo! :) The Blair-Chuck pure evil saga continues. I'm still rooting for them. Lily is back! Hi Lily... you're so pretty. :)

90210
Hmmm... it's okay with Annie that she's the rebound girl? Annie, Annie, Annie... you should've listened to Silver. But hey, Ethan is growing on me. Is it because... never mind. Hahaha. And then Annie decides to rebound on being the rebound. Tsk, tsk. Although I have to admit the show is starting to bore me (OMG, am I too old?). Might have to put this on the "later list" soon.

One Tree Hill
I have no idea. I'm seriously not watching for now. Until they do a 180 on the sucky.

I know, I know... there's more to come. Next stops: B&S, Samantha Who?, DH, DSM and Private Practice. Eeeeeeee! Guess I'll be lunching on my desk more often. ;)

Such a Privilege

Ah, when one door disappoints, another one shows promise. Watching OTH and then watching Privileged proved just that (LOL, did you really think there's depth to this post? :P). While the show does seem a bit TDWP- or Nannie Diaries-ish, the humor factor is three notches above 90210 (and ten times more well-delivered), and Will, the next door neighbor is hands-down hotter than Ryan the English teacher (sorry, dear).

But seriously, what's not to like? There's good old-fashioned sisterly bonding and disbanding, a funny and witty new gay friend, a sophisticated mentor, an interesting love triangle brewing (and who's not interested in a love triangle? hahaha), and a sheeny, sheeny backdrop. There's no doubt the show has enough pizazz to be worth watching but while the show has more depth and heart than 90210, I can't help but wish they built a more interesting main character (despite the self-proclamation, she's not that quirky). Megan, while not entirely bad, doesn't particularly pop either. Will someone please dump glitter on this girl?

Still, with OTH out, this show is on my radar. I hope it doesn't disappoint. :)

Now I'm Bitching

I can't believe I'm actually saying this but what the hell is wrong with One Tree Hill? Have the writers lost all creativity? Because really what has been happening to the show? Lucas and Peyton oh-so-lovey-dovey it's sooooo pukishly annoying. Deb and Skills??? Brooke's face so badly bruised it's beyond creepy. Brooke on her way to becoming a criminal (gee, how cool is that *rolls eyes*). Nathan on his way to becoming a junkie. Haley being Haley *rolls eyes AGAIN*. And for the love of me, I cannot understand why there's a need to show uselessly disturbing scenes between the psycho Dan and the beyond psycho Carrie every so often? Oh, and they killed Quentin off and left it as a cliffhanger to an otherwise spectacular second episode (hence the cape-making). How fantastic! Bravo, bravo!

I can't believe I used to love this show. I can't believe I used to come off watching an episode all excited about the next. I cannot believe I wasted another 45 minutes watching one ridiculous scene after the other. No more. Will someone please just let me know if the old OTH is back? But then, I'm not holding my breath.

The 9-2-1 on 90210

I've been waiting for CW's spin off of the old Beverly Hills 90210 series entitled 90210 (shock!). The show is now on it's third episode but I've only been able to watch the two-episode pilot so far.

I give NINE reasons why the show might be worth watching:

1. Ryan, the English teacher is H-O-T. In a dorky sorta way. If only he shaved. :)

2. The girls are sooo thin they make not want to eat anymore. LOL. Of the girls, I'm liking Adrianna and Silver so far. Adrianna for her potential depth of character, and Silver for her witty sarcasm.

3. Some loose ends got me intrigued.

4. Ethan has the potential to grow on me.

5. Ty Collins is handsome in a surreal, could-he-be-gay-coz-he-seems-too-good-to-be-true sorta way.

6. Naomi's slap was amazing! :) I hope there's many more where that came from. Because sadly, she is still a far cry from Brooke and Blair.

7. Pretty cool remarks and witticisms so far. To quote a few:

"The harder the slap, the faster they get back." - Naomi

"Yeah, his cheating was really an act of love." - Silver

"...that's what blogs are supposed to do. Cause problems." - Silver

"Is that like I'm-just-not-that-into-you "I don't know" or is it more of a I'm-going-to-play-coy-and-make-him-sweat "I don't know"?" - Ryan

8. Shannen Doherty is on the show! I've missed her! Brenda's no Prue, but she'll do. :)

9. It's no Gossip Girl but it's pretty light watching compared to the alternating sickening and creepy sensations that OTH's latest season premiere gave me (I still can't believe OTH is turning out to be such a let down).

However, I see TWO potential problem spots:

1. The drama and humor transitions feel off at times. Like it's trying too hard to be hip.

2. The plot somehow projects a lack of depth that might make it difficult to sustain.

I'm nonetheless watching! :P My ONE request: Harry and Tracy's son better be a scorcher! :D
